THIS IS CEDAR.
He was born 10 February 1997. He is my first collie since Samson passed away. In fact he is the first dog I've gotten since Samson. I had promised myself that I would not have a dog until I had a home of my own. And then I got married to my beautiful wife Jennie and my nomad days came to an end. But she agreed with me, no dogs until we bought a home.
So, in 1997 we bought our first house. A little 3/4 Cape Cod with an oil burner for warmth and drafty windows to cool it off. Now I have to admit that since I grew up in Ohio all animals, dogs included, were basically nothing more than livestock and there was nothing overly special about them. So armed with no knowledge about good breeding we went out to purchase a dog. So we went to a place we found listed in the newspaper after we called them and inquired about collies. "Oh, sure ya-betcha. We got good collie puppies.". It was a nice looking farm. We went inside and there were nicely set up pens/cages with puppies of many different breeds. How convenient! But we looked around and found the 4 collie pups. And once again, the one that pushed his way over the others caught my attention.
So he may not be a show dog, but he's my bestest "bud". He is very active and doesn't like to sit still for very long. There are times when I think a Jack Russell would seem slow and calm compared to this guy. He's extremely friendly and is not afraid to go right up to people, give them a hello bark or two, and then bump them with his shoulder or butt. He has a very deep bark for a collie and this deep bark tends to scare children, much to Cedar's surprise. But after seeing him roll around and wagging his tail, they get the idea that he just wants to play...and play...and play...and play...
