Newborn puppies receive disease-fighting antibodies in their mother's milk.

However, these antibodies normally last only six to 16 weeks. After that, vaccinations protect your puppy. Most vaccinations are given in a series over a period of time. This usually involves several vaccinations between six and 16 weeks, followed by annual boosters.
