In An Emergency:
Contact your veterinarian immediately and follow his advice explicitly!
There is nothing more frightening than being confronted with a sick or injured puppy. Nevertheless, the first rule is to remain calm and call your veterinarian immediately. If your puppy is sick, your veterinarian may be able to advise you over the phone or he may ask you to bring your puppy to his office. If you suspect poisoning, tell the veterinarian what you think the puppy has swallowed and what symptoms he is exhibiting. You should not give your puppy any home remedies or medications without consulting your veterinarian. You should exercise caution when dealing with a sick or injured puppy. Any animal in pain may bite, so it may be wise to muzzle your puppy before you attempt any first aid. You can use a scarf, sock or soft towel. (Have your veterinarian demonstrate this process to you at your initial visit.) If your puppy is bleeding, you may need to apply a pressure bandage to slow the blood flow before transporting him. If you suspect a broken bone, call your veterinarian for advice on how to move the puppy.
Because the trip to your veterinarian's office may be traumatic for you and your puppy, you might ask a friend or neighbor to drive.
